Anthony of Padua
The Baptism of Christ

Circa 1529-73
Fresco
Church of St. Roch, Draguć, Croatia

In this most unusual composition the figure pouring water on Jesus' head may be the Father. His halo has two arms of the cross-shape one sees only on images of the Deity, and he holds a long hand-cross as if to bless Jesus with it. Also, there is no other indication of the Father's presence.

So would the figure pressing his hands together on the left then be John the Baptist? Or, being beardless, could he be John the Evangelist, who writes of this baptism in John 1:29-34?
